Good times!

It's been a few days since I posted anything on here and that is mainly due to the fact that we've had a little "fussy gus" the past few days. I was bragging to everyone about how well she slept at night and that she never really cried at all, and well, that backfired I think. The other night we had an all out screamfest by our sweet little Madison. I think she pretty much cried/screamed off and on from about 11pm until about 5am. It was lovely! She would be asleep and then all of a sudden blood curdling screams would emerge from her mouth. Wow! That's all I can say! Needless to say I had a mini breakdown that evening. It lasted pretty much the rest of the day. I'm thinking it was her friend - gas. She is the hardest little child to burp and sometimes all that gas builds up in her and she just screams and kicks and gets all red in the face. It seems to be getting better and the nights have been a little smoother so hopefully it keeps going in the right direction. I feel sorry for her, and I feel helpless all at the same time. I just wish there were more I could do for her. She still is a precious little angel though!!

3 Week Old Dr Visit

Maddie is 3 weeks old today! I can't believe how time is flying with her. She has been the best little baby anyone could ask for. She is definately awake more during the days now and she is more aware of her surroundings. She follows her mommy and daddy's faces and really pays attention. She stares at books when we read them to her as well.
We took her to the Pediatrician yesterday for her check up. She now weighs 7 lbs 4 1/2 oz and is 19 1/2 inches long. She has really been packing the weight on lately. The Dr said that he's very happy with her progress and weight gain. He said that I no longer have to set the alarm every 3 hours during the night to feed her and to just let her feed when hungry during the night. Last night was the first night of trying this routine and I must say I was VERY impressed. I know I shouldn't brag too much, but I fed her at 12:30am and she slept solid until 5am. I fed her again then and she slept some more until 8:30am. I couldn't have been happier and it felt magnificent to actually get a little more sleep. We'll see what tonight will bring but at least we had one good night!!

2 Weeks Old Today!!

Today Maddie is 2 weeks old! It seems a lot longer than that when I was going through all the fun stuff of having her, however the time has also flown by. I can't believe she's already 2 weeks old. The funny part is, she wasn't even supposed to be born until this coming Sunday!
Our little girl continues to do great. She is a feeding machine! She feeds every 2 1/2 to 3 hours and keeps packing on the weight. She's starting to get a little double chin already so I guess that means she's getting enough calories!
Today we're just spending time hanging out with Grandma and Grandpa Schnackenberg and telling them all sorts of interesting things. She's definately becoming more attentive and watches things more closely. She's also spending more and more time awake during the day which definately helps a lot at night time.
Here are a few pictures of our little sweetheart on her 2 week birthday!

Sponge bath time!!

Little Miss Madison got yet another sponge bath yesterday and Daddy decided it would be a good time to get out the camera. She really does seem to like getting washed off so that's a good thing. Hopefully she'll be a little water baby. Here are a few pictures from bathtime!

Progress!!

Here are a few more pictures as promised!!!

Just to let you know, Madison did great through the night last night. She woke up about every 2 hours and 45 minutes, fed, burped, changed and back to bed. She was a real trooper last night. I think trying to keep her awake a little more yesterday resulted in a better night for all of us involved. I hope she keeps up the good work!

1st Dr. Visit

Madison had her first Pediatrician visit yesterday and she did great!! She weighed in at a whopping 5 lbs 12 oz which was great considering she left the hospital last Friday weighing 5 lbs 3 oz. Obviously our little girl has her Daddy's appetite. The Dr. said that she looked great and passed all his little tests. She has her next appointment in about 2 weeks so we'll see how much she grows until then. She's been doing much better with her feedings and is getting on a pretty regular schedule. The night's aren't TOO bad, however she feels that at 2am it's time to wake up and look around at the world and that sleeping is not necessary. So, for the past two nights I was up with her for about 2-3 hours while she was all eyes and smiles :) I hope she gets that straightened out soon. I'm trying my hardest to keep her more awake during the day so she's more sleepy at night. We'll see how that works.
Also, Madison actually really likes getting a sponge bath. She doesn't even mind me washing her hair. She pretty much just laid there this morning while I was washing her up, that is until the diaper came off. Holy cow, that girl can poop!! I was holding her against me washing her back when all of a sudden a huge burst of poop came flying out all over me and down the sink and her towel and the floor and pretty much anywhere within a foot radius. That was GREAT!! Of course, after that, she smiled! THAT'S MY GIRL!!!

I promise, more pictures will be up soon!!

Madison Elaine Davis has arrived!!!

Chris and I were blessed with our little angel Madison Elaine on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at 6:52am. She weighed 5 lbs 11 oz and was 19 1/4 inches long. She has dark blond hair that is slightly curly and blue eyes. She is absolutely adorable!!
Here's the story of how Maddie got here. At around 3am Monday morning I woke up to use the restroom and "thought" my water may have broken. So, I woke up Chris and told him and of course he was more than ready to ship me to the hospital in Springfield. I told him I wasn't completely sure that it was my water and that I didn't know if we should go to the hospital or not. However, he insisted and we eventually got to the Labor and Delivery triage at about 6am that morning. They did a test on me to see if my water really had broken however, that came back negative. They called my Dr and he had me walk the halls for an hour and then ordered for a recheck. Well, they rechecked and the test still came back negative. The nurse told me that she felt almost positive that my water had broken and called the Dr again. This time he ordered a Fern test to completely rule in or out my water breaking. That test did come back positive so off to the Labor and Delivery room we went. At this point, I was extremely nervous and anxious because I thought this was a false alarm. They got us settled into our room and checked me and I was only a fingertip dilated. They started me on Pitocin and antibiotics because my water had broken and I was basically not dilated...along with the fact that I was 3 weeks early to have her. From 11am on Monday until 5am on Tuesday there was not much progress. I was having some contractions and told by the Dr on call to go ahead and get an epidural. So, after the epidural I was feeling great, however things were still not progressing. I was only dilated to 3cm by 5am on Tuesday morning and she had apparently crawled way back inside. The Dr. told me that he highly recommended a C section due to the lack of progress and that little Maddie may eventually start wearing out and having problems herself. So, Chris and I talked it over and decided we would proceed with the operation. Chris was all ready to come back with me after they boosted my epidural to surgical limits so he was excited that we were about to have a baby. However, like the rest of the labor time, this didn't work out the way we expected either. They tried to boost my epidural, however I was still feeling needle sticks on my abdomen after 2 injections so they told me that they would have to completely put me out for the surgery. This meant that Chris wasn't allowed back with me which started me crying pretty good. But, before I knew it I was waking up in the recovery room with an oxygen mask on with my beautiful little angel Madison laying on my chest and Chris talking to me telling me that our daughter was here and that she was beautiful. I was very groggy that entire day due to the anesthesia and the pain medication I was being given, so most of the first day is a blurr to me. Madison was having some problems keeping her temperature up and had to spend most of the first day under the warmers. However, after a day she started to regulate her temperature and she did just fine. Her weight on leaving the hospital was 5 lbs 3 oz. We were released from the hospital on Friday, February 6th and was able to take little Madison Elaine home with us. We are so excited to have her in our lives!!! Here are a few pictures from our stay.
